THE ARTISTIC PROJECT

“The DAP 2017 festival has its roots in the strong artistic bonds I have with both the Cultural Institutes of the City of Pietrasanta and the Royal Danish Theater. DAP 2017 features the collaboration between Sebastian Kloborg, Kim Helweg, and the Master of Sculpture Jørgen Haugen Sørensen.

For more than half a century, Sørensen’s art stands out in the international Art World as an “exploration of the continuous narrative of existential conditions of this generation.” Klorborg’s dance creations are meaningfully expressed through a beautiful contemporary language outlined by strong significance, and Helweg has decades of experience with classical and contemporary dance at the Royal Danish Theatre, and his work is an expression of the contemporary Scandinavian musical genius.

The value of this Danish triad lies in the combination of the artistic experience of a Master like Sørensen, the beautiful intensity of Kim Helweg’s musical composition, with the sparkling, innovative, and exciting young artistic choreographic talent of Sebastian Klorborg.”

The collaboration is set to create a world premiere for the city of Pietrasanta.

The goal is to create a piece that combines our three art forms using the sounds of the sculpturing tools, the sounds of the marble of the paint and to have the dancers in the choreography become the sculpture and the sculpture become the dancers.

My inspiration for the piece came through Jørgen Haugen Sørensen’s sculpture ‘The Crowd”.
The sculpture is to be redone removing some of the ‘figures’ so that they during a performance can be replaced by dancers – making sculpture and dancers one unit.

The piece will be a dance piece for 4 dancers and will depict the human need of belonging to a society, in a family, in belief and even belonging to death, but also what it means to stand outside, alone and that same need of loneliness.

It will be a piece that invites the audience into the center of the piece and my hope is that they too will become one with the sculpture, music and dancing.

New York Associate Artistic Directors

The DAP 2017 Festival seeks to combine the rich visual arts history and culture of the City of Pietrasanta with meaningful contemporary dance. It celebrates the city’s culture of sculpture, film, and photography through live dance – on stage and throughout the city. To serve this exciting creative collaboration we draw upon New York’s diverse and extensive dance community to fuel the exchange.

THREE ARTISTS

The DAP FESTIVAL offers a dance experience and education to young artists in a place deeply bound to the contemporary visual arts; sculpture, set design, photography to name a few. For this reason, DAP FESTIVAL is created for the City of Pietrasanta.

“The artistic bond that throughout my career has strongly connected me to the Royal Danish Theater and the Cultural Institutes of the City of Pietrasanta, has allowed me to start this innovative collaboration for the DAP festival 2017, between Sebastian Kloborg, Kim Helweg and the Master of Sculpture Jørgen Haugen Sørensen. One of the many values of this Danish artistic triad lies in the desire to combine the artistic experience of a Master like Sørensen, whose art stands out in the international Art World for more than half a century (“his works can be read as an exploration of the continuous narrative of existential conditions of this generation”), to the sparkling, innovative and exciting young artistic choreographic talent of Sebastian Kloborg, whose dance creations are meaningfully expressed through a beautiful contemporary language outlined by strong significance. The work will be accompanied by a beautiful and intense musical composition of Kim Helweg.
Helweg’s music with decades of classical and contemporary experience for dance at the Royal Danish Theatre is the artistic pick of expressiveness of the contemporary Scandinavian musical genius

THE DAP FESTIVAL GUEST COMPANY

At the end of July 2016 a production team has been defined: the DAP Festival Guest Company.

The DAP Festival Guest Company has resulted in a production at the Royal Danish Theater and at the Civic Theatre of Pietrasanta (February-March 2017). An extract of the production has been presented in Florence at the final Gala of ‘Danza in Fiera’.

The goal is to create a piece that combines our three art forms using the sounds of the sculpturing tools, the sounds of the marble of the paint and to have the dancers in the choreography become the sculpture and the sculpture become the dancers.

My inspiration for the piece came through Jørgen Haugen Sørensen’s sculpture ‘The Crowd’.

The piece will depict the human need of belonging to a society, in a family, in belief and even belonging to death, but also what it means to stand outside, alone and that same need of loneliness.
